Why Averages Suck

This data is from Google’s new AdWords Conversion Funnels “Time Lag” report. The graph and the heading say it all. Although 90% of my vistors complete a task within an hour, the “average” task completion time is 7 hours. Because of the skew (some people take several days), calculating the average of a long tail distribution is almost pointless.
